Mona

This pair of door handles was commissioned by Marcie Hoffman Porges for the entry of The Ovo Cafe on Cenral Ave. near Fifth Street, in Downtown St. Petersburg. She, and her husband, Ron, use the stylized image of the Mona Lisa as the trademark for their chain of top-of-the-line avant-cafes. The first Ovo Cafe,(Actually named after their weimereiner, Ovo) in Ybor City, remains as one of the few pioneering establishments responsible for the Ybor rennaissance of the mid-eighties. They are perhaps the only ones who have maintained the original, charming character that made Ybor City appealing in the first place.

The door handles are constructed in steel, With a brass inlay framing the portrait, and spelling the word ART(blurred by reflection in the upper right hand corner). I achieved the colorful contrast using various chemical preparations.
